Oh what a tangled web they weave.......

It looks as if WSDOT is doing an Environmental Assessment of a traffic lane “weave” from SR520 to N.E. 8th on I-405, proposing “to build new structures to separate northbound traffic exiting to SR 520 from traffic entering I-405 in Bellevue.” (http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405/ne8thtosr520). A Scoping meeting is to be held on September 20th at Bellevue City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Realistically, how is even the most motivated and involved citizen to keep track of all these disjoint proposals?

Having spent way too much time on the environmental documentation of the I-405 Corridor Project, I was a bit surprised this is being proposed so soon, the N.E. 10th ramps to Overlake having just made the list of projects. I-405 should be an expensive and noisy mess when all is said and done – who knows how they'll mitigate all the “adverse impacts.” I suppose when all Bellevue is surrounded with a giant gray noise wall they'll call it done.

Though dependent on Metro for day-to-day transportation, I can't see increasing the sales tax for “enhanced service.” More buses driving 'round Bellevue aimlessly really doesn't address the transportation problems, and since they seem intent on these mega projects.....

Cheers! - Jim
